Depends of you can have them well away from a wall.

The 3/5A was before it's time as the KEF midrange unot wasn't really up to full-range duties (in the 3/5A or Kan IMO) and truly wide-band tweeters didn't exist then either. Neither the scansqueak that Linn used nor the T27 in the 3/5A went down far enough and the B110 wouldn't go high enough without complaining viciously - a deep dip followed by the "quack" at 5kHz. The BBC design put in a ringing filter at the dip frequency to try to "correct" this, with some success in the early days before KEF had to fugg up the B100 design...

Thankfully for those in the real world, the current Harbeth "derivative" - the P3ESR, has NONE of these shortcomings and sounds delightfully sweet and clear - a totally different ball game altogether I think (the twenty year old original P3 was shedloads better too - I compared these with the later 3/5A, although Alan S said the original mid 70's LS3/5A was something special in his opinion)
I can't go on and I can't go back, I don't feel so matter of fact,
I tried and tried to make good sense, What's the good to try it all again?

KEF did have the T15 at the time, it goes down lower than the T27, works very well with the B110

Not necessarily a bargain, but could be of interest to someone if they are looking for some Harbeth SHL5's, he is taking offers?

    £1,750 or best offer

Some people have no idea what they're doing and a lot of them are really good at it.

not sure if this is a bargain as I don't know how much they go for, but reckoned to be a great amp nonetheless.

Still, not too far off normal for a pair of early Chartwells..

Have to remember also that the pound had a devaluation of some 30% a few years ago - other countries will be paying the same prices as maybe they always have but it will be 30% higher when priced in £s..

I think that's certainly the case with BC1s - people in the Euro zone have always been paying around £300 for them which equated to €500.

Now they still pay €500 but in £s today that is now £440.. so the price appears to go up whereas actually the value of all your savings has gone down!

Chartwell LS3/5as used to reach ~ £2000 max a few years ago, now they reach £3000 max. Can be accounted for PURELY by GBP devaluation.

Better really to keep your savings in something that has international value, has a its footing over a few boarders - LS3/5as could be a good store of money that will keep it's value or Gold or whatever..

Add that in to coming crises maybe you'd all better start buying these up before the UK gets hit by the ratings agencies!

£3100 for those Chartwells is total an utter nonsense - I have heard the Rogers equivilant. Good little 'speaker but I wouldn't pay more than a ton and a half even if they were mint. Crazy
