I thought you would find this interesting Andr'e, i put it on this evening in my office system having been given it last night to try out and was pleasently supprised, i'm only playing Spotify from the head phone socket on the PC whilst trying to do paper work but the sound was nice and relaxing, it certainly gave my ears a rest from the "T" amp

Looks like the horn that screws to the front is missing unfortunately. Apparently you might have the driver or at least the casing. Some kind of 2" or so dome was used as a tweeter by the looks of it...

It's a Parmeko LS-1 but is missing it's diaphragm and multi cell horn for the HF compression driver. Unfortunately the diaphragm is rarer that rocking horse sh*t.

The BBC LS1 monitor used one of these supplemented with a Lorenz LPH-65 cone tweeter to fill in a dip in the response curve where the 605 line frequency is.

Yes, the Parmeko LS-1 was used in the BBC designed loudspeaker, the LSU/10.

Introduced in 1950, only 500 units were made for the BBC. No units were ever made for domestic use. A pair of LSU/10 speakers recently went on eBay for ~ £12,000.

The LSU/10 originally consisted of the afore mentioned Parmeko LS-1 mounted in a BBC designed cabinet, designated the LB/8. It was often driven by a modified Leak "Point One" amplifier, later known as the Leak TL12 (using KT66 output tetrodes).

The Parmeko LS-1 was a copy of the Altec 604 design, and had a frequency response that dropped off rapidly beyond 7.5KHz. This was sufficient to monitor AM broadcasts and the playing of the 78s of the time, but was unable to detect the line scan frequency of 405 line TV. To overcome this limitation, the BBC chose to fit the Lorentz LPH 65 super-tweeter into the LB/8 cabinet, with the Lorentz unit directly bolted to the cabinet grill. It was always intended by Parmeko that the LS-1 should only be used for frequencies < 1200 Hz.

The LSU/10 was 'pensioned off' in 1962; being replaced by the LS5/1, though a few units remained in use.

The Parmeko LS-1 units were only supplied to the BBC for a year.
