red logo and it goes up to 12v...sounds smashin.I've just been on the blower to maplins HQ;
There would appear to be some confusion at maplins about the VN10L...
They have 3 different suppliers and three different product codes (none of which are on the box), the ones I bought for my SB receivers (9V) about a month ago were discounted to £12.99, have a red maplins label on the device, and cover 1.5,3,4.5,6,7.5,9 & 12 v range.
The ones in the Coventry store are as above, but now at £18.99
The current one advertised on the web page has a blue maplins label and cover 5,6,7.5,9,12,13.2 v range. Perfect for my SB3 and for the touch too!
So the question is how can one acquire the updated one?
Maplins are apparently going to get in touch with me, I'll post their response if I get one
Tony what does your recently bought VN10L look like, what voltage options does it offer, and is the maplins logo red?

So if it's the same as the SuperTeddy regulators i have seen it's a cascaded (2 section) series regulator. Shunt regulators are incredibly inefficient unless you are nearly drawing the full design current, requiring huge heatsinks

No but I started a thread a while ago on the subject, and after some good input from more electronically minded people on AOS I moved towards the cheaper maplins offering...what is that filter thingy? Probably a ferric ring in a posh box...

It is indeed Jon...one small downside, the one I ordered arrived very promptly, unfortunately it's the original spec not the web site one...i.e. it doesn't do 5v only 4.5v etc.
So 'buyer beware', fortunately I've blundered into success again, the beresford DAC I'd recently bought needs 12v (I thought it needed 15v), and the old one does that too, so I'll be keeping mine.
