Just be grateful she's not into Art Garfunkel.

You had a lucky escape Andre, we had them at the Godiva festival (free festival in Cov.) a year or so ago...oh dear shocking! I had a soft spot for the league prior to Dare, but this was like a stars in their eyes version.

They wouldn't go amiss art Butlins!

I went to see Ben Folds (any fans here? never heard anyone mention him) last saturday, at the HMV institute, Digbeth....

Great show, crap venue.... it was far too full, and far too quiet, hearing the conversations around you rather than the music was extremely irritating.

The support act confused me... Her name was Kate Miller Heidke, and she sounded pretty good on stage, sort of quirky singer songwriter with definite hints of Regina Spektor, with crazy operatic interludes, and a pretty decent guitar player... I even considered getting her record after her set. I didn't, because it was £15, which is a ludicrous amount to pay for a support act CD IMO, I'm glad I didn't because I've done a little internet research, and listened to 75% of it, and it's terrible mainstream pop crap!

    Hi Dan,

As in the Ben Folds 5 etc?

Is it pretty much the same as the the old institute, or worse? Off to Mogwai tomorrow so will report back...

yep that's the chap, no longer with the so called 5 (there were three of them )

I never went to the old one I don't think, I went to the same venue when it was a nightclub called The Sanctuary, I was even an extra in a werewolf film there once... I doesn't seem to be the ideal shape for a venue, and it is very small for some of the bands that play there.... It was even pretty cramped for Nouvelle Vague (the only other band I've seen there, and not exactly U2 on the fame scale).
I shall be interested to hear back about the Mogwai gig, I would imagine they would have to crank the volume on that, because they sound great LOUD!

I saw Tina Dico tonight at the Cadogan Hall in London. My first time seeing her and what an exceptional and engaging artist. I won't say too much, as I know somebody else is going to see her on this tour. Suffice to say you will not be disappointed In fact I cannot believe a couple of hours could fly by so quickly - a very polished performance indeed.

Picked up an EP too which she mentioned during the show, recorded with the Danish National Chamber Orchestra. Will have to wait till tomorrow now, but I am looking forward to hearing it.

Some people have no idea what they're doing and a lot of them are really good at it.

Last band I went to see was the Thai band 'Blackhead' I also saw 'Carabao' live in a small club in Hua Hin Thailand. They were fantastic. Raw Thai folk played live is very exciting.

Simon Rattle conducting the Berlin Philharmonic last night at the Festival Hall. Mahler Symphony No. 3 and two pretty choral pieces by Brahms and Wolf. We had ace tickets in row C and the sound was magnificent. Rattle clearly holds control over the orchestra and members were deferential and looked at him frequently. The BPO were incredibly tight, with superb timing and soaring crescendos, making the most of Mahler's oddness, especially in the first movement, and wonderful romantic theme in the finale.

A very appreciative audience gave them a standing ovation and it's clear that Rattle is 'our boy done good'. A truly wonderful and memorable evening.

If I recall correctly the 'Sanctury' club was in the old 'factory' as it was called, and is downstairs (now seems to be called the library).

I think mogwai should be on in the main auditorium, as there are balcony seats up for grabs, it was where the 'Gods Kitchen' club night used to be held. I also recall seeing Death in Vegas there on their first tour about 97/98 before they stopped holding gigs there.

    ...we'll see anyway
    Cheers, Will
