If you thought those were interesting then look out for the big brothers. From what i can remember they use 9 (though it could have been 8 with one in the middle missing??? Doesn't sound right but could be) of the same bass/mids on bass duty (think they are 5.25") what looked like an 8" or 10" for midrange & of course a dome tweeter.

Some small speakers that are long forgotten are quite good I've found. Maybe there's less to go wrong. Certainly people don't tend to idolise them like some larger ones.
Even my found-on-a-skip Gale Monitors which find it hard to fetch £10 on Ebay are pretty good..
The magazine endorced small cheap monitor was the Morduant Short MS10i - between £25 and £45 ebay prices.
