This is very poor photo of the restaurant we liked to frequent. geitonia.remenu.net The food and drink (wine) there was excellent.

Some of the dishes we had there were:Beef Souvelaki, with garlic and rosemary in a tomato sauce; Mousaka (of course!); Dolmades - stuffed vine leaves served with yoghurt, and octopus with chick pea purée and fresh lemon and rosemary, and their wonderful salads: fresh spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, rocket, white cheese mousse, honey, balsamic vinegar and sesame on a filo pastry.

The red wine wasn't too bad either:'Alikos', a dry red wine. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah grape. 13.5% ABV. "Features rich aromas of black fruites, tobacco, and spices, with a full-bodied, velvety texture, soft-to-medium tannins ", and a reasonably long finish.

Good stuff, Barry. I'm actually a fan of Greek wine, which you can get here in the UK if you know where to look

Btw, do you like Kleftico? That's one of my favourite Greek dishes.

To answer the second question first - yes!

When I travel to "parts foreign", I try to sample as much of the local food and drink as I can. As far as drink, and wine in particular is concerned, I'm not the exclusive Bordeaux wine lover that you might think: I'm fond of a lot of European wine as I am of South American wine.

I don't know too much about Greek wine, and when in Greece or its islands, I choose wine by the grapes used, and so far that criterion has been successful. But if given a choice, I would probably go for a Turkish Anatolian wine, such as Kavaklidere made with local Öküzgözü and Boğazkere grape. Certainly when travelling in Syria, the best wine available there was Anatolian, and even in Turkey I found myself preferring wine from the Anatolia region.
