It doesn't draw the eye though, unlike on lighter finishes. I don't mind it myself.

I'd forgotten the character of these things, there's definitely a sense of restrained power. A lot of it!
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

A rare, very late Quad 606 Mk.II power-amp, in black and grey with the later 909 type bevel edged casing. It's in amazing condition, as near immaculate as could be hoped for. With the later spec, it's more or less a 909 without the unwanted and occasionally problematic Quadlink circuitry. It's sounding excellent and totally silent mechanically. Nice.

Very nice, well done Geoff - but then you would expect that from AoS's resident Quad enthusiast.

You say it is a later spec model, without the Quadlink interface, but where was it made in the UK or China? Later Quad electronics that were made in China have been criticised by some because of the inferior quality components fitted.

It's well within the UK production Barry (it has 'Huntingdon' marked on the rear). The transit to Chinese manufacture occurred some time after the later 909 was introduced.

That's good to know. In general power amplifiers are not really intended to be put on display (unless yours have distracting power indicators! ), but as far as the 606 is concerned, and picking up on Martin's comment, I prefer the earlier 606 with the sans serif lettering. But it's a minor quibble.

Am I right in thinking that later production 909s were made in China though?

I realised that, you said after it was introduced but that didn't necessarily mean while it was still in production so I wanted to clarify.
