Thanks for that Tim. Sounds the sort of thing that I could use.

The trouble is how do you receive the films? I'm not up on things Internet, my TVs are well away from the router (one is upstairs) and I don't want Ethernet cables snaking around the house - can they be wireless linked?

I have just looked on the BFI website you linked. It looks as though I can receive the films via my wireless laptop, which would be connected to the TV via an HDMI cable. I have to find out if my Sony TV is HDMC compliant (it is a 'smart' TV, but I have never used that facility).

    BFI lists supported devices as follows;

    TV Apps
Samsung Smart TV app (2019 onwards)
LG Smart TV app (2019 onwards)
    Amazon Fire TV app
    Apple TV app (2019 onwards)
    Android TV app (2019 onwards)
    Chromecast with Google Play

We will no longer be updating the TV app for Samsung TVs from 2015 to 2018. While this version of the app is still available and will continue to work on certain TVs, playback and performance may be affected.
We recommend using a plug-in device such as Chromecast or Fire Stick for TVs that no longer support the TV app.

    Mobile
    iOS: iOS 13 or higher
    Android: V11 or higher

    Desktop/Laptop
    PC: Windows 10 or higher
    Mac: macOS 11 or higher

BFI Player supports the latest versions of most internet modern browsers.

As I don't have a television I have a mini PC attached via HDMI to a projector, so I can show films via a web browser for MUBI and BFI and using VLC media player for my own library of ripped films. I used to do what you are proposing, a laptop attached via HDMI . . . so that does work, or it did for me.

An earlier Hollywood version "loosely based on" the Odyssey...

    Terrific movie.
Think Christopher Nolan is going in a different direction....

Yes - it's a good movie, based as you say, on The Odyssey. The Coen brothers make a good stab at condensing the epic poem, and George Clooney is good as Ulysses, as is John Goodman as the Cyclops.

Well worth watching; but then so is everything made by the two brothers.

I've just been looking at the trailer for the Christopher Nolan version - it doesn't fill me with a lot of enthusiasm.
