Having an internet fibre optic installed

As an update, a couple of 'civil engineers' have just arrived to lay a 1cm diameter conduit from the small inspection trap, run it down the garden so as to have it emerge close to the external fibre optic junction box at the front of the house.

I will still have to wait for another team of people to come and actually install the fibre optic cable and connect it all up to the router. I do wonder if the task will ever get finished!

The Epilogue

Well it all happened today: first the conduit was laid 6" deep in the ground, which only took about an hour to do, then a couple of hours later an engineer arrived to actually fit the fibre optic and set up the system.

That was when things went a bit awry. The engineer could not get a signal to register at the fibre to copper converter box. It turned out the previous engineer had damaged the fibre optic when he passed it through the wall to the junction box on the outside of the house. Fortunately the second engineer was able repair the fibre optic and get the system up and running. Well done that lass!

I'm afraid my idea to still keep the land line phone where it was, wouldn't work, so I'll replace it with a wireless version which will work anywhere. Still don't really like the idea of having the router on the widow sill, but it's the only place where it is off the floor.
