An 11 YO sherry cask version.
I see there is a bottle for sale at £300. Too much for me to be comfortable spending that on a bottle.

That would be an excellent dram Kevin, but way over my whisky spending limit.

I bought the 2004 version, hoping it would be similar, however it is not as nice, but it is still good,

A few years ago my wife found Caol Ila 18 at €45 a bottle in Toulouse. She phoned me and asked me if I wanted one.
I obviously said yes. It was first bottle of Caol Ila, so was not sure I would like it. I went to the shop the following weekend and bought another two.
About 6 months later, I was back innthe same shop, and the owner asked me if I had any left, as he had clients who were happy to lay a good price.
I politely refused, asking him what he had in stock for the proposed price that would be better.
He had nothing to offer me.

£45 for an 18 year ole Caol Ila, those were the days, a wonderful price, whisky prices have gone crazy for the last few years, but looks like things are settling down again and a bit more sensible.

I've never tried the 8 YO Lagavulin Robin . . . . but Master of Malt will soon be rectifying that for me - together with a Bunna 12 and an Uigeadail. They have Bunna 12 for £36.39 at the moment, bloody bargain!




Depends on the Laphroaig Barry - I have a nice bottle of Triple Wood and Lore isn't too bad either.

The Triple Wood has been discontinued. Laphroaig recommend their Quarter Cask as a replacement, which is what I normally buy.

I used to buy Springbank 10 for £39.90 in 2019, went up to £41.95 until 2021 (I keep a whisky record), so not hugely long ago, now it's often hard to even find and if you do it's expensive. Not sure what happened with Springbank but their popularity just took off into the stratosphere. I often see it in films now, I wish I didn't, I preferred it when not that many people knew about Springbank

Springbank 10 is now around £55, well that was the price last week, when the new season’s bottles were released. As usual sold out fairly quickly, my local whisky shop does not receive an allocation but I receive updates from a shop that does.

I’m not sure when Springbank became so desirable but I think we are looking at maybe 10 years ago, around covid. Several people started you tube channels about whisky some more successfully than others. People were stuck in the house watching you tube all day. There is quite a big Whisky community that didn’t exist before this , for example the Glasgow Whisky festival, 2 days in November sells out in minutes.

It’s quite interesting to watch form the sidelines, people are desperate to obtain certain new releases (at times similar to vinyl).

I refuse to be involved in this I don’t suffer from FOMO, to be honest at times there are whiskies I would like to try but refuse to pay silly prices.

Cheapest I could find today was £59.95 from Master of Malt, but you can only buy 1 bottle and have to join their Members Club for £29.00 a year to buy it. Amazon have a couple for £159.00, but I don't like buying whisky from Amazon and I won't pay that anyway.

I'm the same, I won't get involved in the silly prices game. I have a few bottles of Springbank at the back of the cupboard, a 10, 15 and a cask strength amongst them, but they're special occasion whiskies now, as I probably won't be buying any more.

Have you tried Bunnahabhain Toiteach a Dhà and Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair Robin? They look interesting and I'd welcome an opinion if you have. I fancy giving them a go, but haven't tried them.

I have tasted Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair (the Helmsman), in fact I have bottle just now, its 46.3% ABV, non chill filtered and no added colour and was on offer in Tesco last week for £27.50. I find it a fine easy sipper, for the price when it’s on offer hard to ignore, not the most complex whisky but an enjoyable dram, and unpeated.

that's a bargain - you don't ever see Bunnahabhain at Tesco around here, Waitrose are the only place that sell it and not always. I have to go into Cardiff to buy decent whisky in specialist shop's, but I mostly get it from Master of Malt.

I'll give it a go, but it won't be for £27.50.
