Any Linn LP12 users still on the forum?

I've got one : Valhalla, Ittok, AT-OC9.

I bought it about 25-30 years ago, when I had a powder blue Rega Planar 3.
I sold that and ended up paying £180 for the Linn (about £350 altogether, with the sale of the Rega).
It had a Basik arm originally. The fella selling it had just had a baby and "had to make an appointment" to use it, in his words.

Bargain.

Had it serviced about ten years back, when the Ittok was fitted. Upgraded to an MC about the same time.

I was a DJ for many years and have used many, many decks in my life.
I have to say the sound is excellent.
Not always the best - some CDs sound better, even on my player - but that's as much down to the recordings, I find.
Some records are astonishing on it.
I played a copy of The Dude by Quincy Jones the other day, a record I've owned for longer than the deck but hadn't played for decades. I'd heard Razzmatazz on the radio and wanted to give it another listen.
I heard parts - instruments, I mean - that I'd never heard on that track till I played it through my current set-up. The amp and speakers help, obviously, but I'm really happy with everything I own now.
I think I may possibly go for a higher quality CDP at some point, but the rest is more or less end-game for me.

That is my constant problem Paul - every time I get to pondering about new gear, I end up thinking how much music I could buy instead. Pretty much always the music wins!

My main deck is an LP12. I've fitted a Stack Audio sub-chassis, custom armboard and Phonomac fettled Audio Techica 1010. It's been a solid performer since it was passed to me from my father a decade or so ago.

Now that's a great reason to own and enjoy an LP12

I just checked out Stack Audio, looks like they've stopped making the sub-chassis, which is a shame.

Yes, I believe so and agree it is a shame. I liked their turntable upgrades and found Theo Stack always very helpful. I think it might have been this post that got me onto Stack Audio LP12 upgrades.

That's an interested read Rob, thanks for linking it.

I've researched a lot about the LP12 recently, quite fascinating but also a big money pit if you want to really go to town. You can build a complete LP12 it seems with virtually nothing coming from Linn themselves, although I haven't seen an aftermarket outer platter yet, but everything else . . . the sky's the limit!

Cancel that, I just found an after market outer platter . . . a bunch of them in fact!

Why wouldn't there still be LP12 users on the forum? Lovely sounding things, even my very basic Valhalla, RB300 set-up makes nice music.

LP12, Ittok, Minos, AT-33. Bought it for 1k just over 2 years back in the UK on eBay from a bloke doing house clearances. Was originally a Valhalla Asak combo. Got the arm bearings serviced, swapped the arm plugs for RCA's and fitted the AT. My "lucky" mate brought it over in the back of his car and whilst I was expecting to pay duty they waved him through. Had it here two days and one channel died. Ended up having to take the arm back to the UK with me - I commute luckily - and the lovely Paul Bird rewired it. Yannis Tom provided a T cable replacement and I fitted a Valhalla Electronics Minos. Got the arm back to Spain Easter 2025 and took a 5 hour drive to Barcelona where the ex Linn importer fitted the arm for me and set the deck back up. Another 5 hour drive and I had to leave it on the couch when I got home as it was our big bonfire night here and I was invited to a BBQ. It is now sat on my hifi rack where it will remain. It is an early 90's Agnes Munro deck and I have no intention of any upgrades apart from maybe a new bearing when needed. My hearing is shot after 13 years working on a hot rolling mill back when ear defenders were not compulsory and not general issue. Back in those days - early 90's - the LP12 / Ittok was a thing of great beauty that I could only dream of owning. To me it is still a thing of great beauty and I am happy to believe that this is my last turntable.
