The horse idea might just be sustainable, after all you've got about one and a half football pitches worth of garden there, and so might be your 'safest' option - it'll also provide alternative transport without the need for tax/MOT/insurance, no fuelling costs, and if it doesn't work out, all is not lost - just look up "local boucheries chevalines" in le yellow pages
I only found this out by watching 'Escape To The Country' where a horsey type rejected a house that had a garden stretching to the horizon as it wasn't big enough for her horses. You need at least two acres per horse.
