First this, got at a bargain price from HMV:



First studio album in a quarter of a century (it says on the sticker), during which time Matt Johnson seems to have transitioned from angry young man to grumpy old git... but still decent music well recorded. Anita likes it, I don't know if that's a good sign.

Then this one - I don't think Mr. Johnson has bettered this before or since. An essential imo.

Probably my favourite Soft Machine LP.

It covers the period where the Softs were starting to transition from a Dadaesque influence to a more jazz influenced style; as displayed on 'Third'.

Have to agree with you. Ensoulment is OK, but it's no infected, and that's a fact.
