Not a Zappa recording I'm familiar with. But then he produced so many: I have about 40 of Zappa's recordings, but not that one!

In my innocent past I was a bit of fan of the group The Nice, as I was fascinated by their fusion (or, as I later realised, the 'confusion') of classical music with rock music.

The Nice, lead by the classically trained keyboard player Keith Emerson, were one of the first groups in the late '60s to experiment with this. For some reason I decided to dig out some of their LPs:

Oh dear, whatever I thought of them then (and having seen them twice), my tastes have certainly changed. In few words, I found their work a confusing mismash of covers of extracts of various famous classical works, played by rock musicians of average musical ability, mixed in with songs sung by a vocalist with one of the worse voices in rock history. Largely an excuse for Keith Emerson to show off with his organ "noodlings", which often verge on the bombasitic and performative.
