He with least money has most to sell
I used to have a love/hate relationship with the Dan. That didn’t stop me buying all their LPs, whilst I was still trying to work out out if I liked them or not. Well I'm pleased to say I now love them.
Same thing has happened with Neil Young, though I still dislike his grunge phase.

You got a lot of good listening ahead of you then - assuming you like them.
Neil Young has done massively varied music. I don't like all of it by a long chalk. 'Trans' for example. As my mate Budge said, 'I don't know what he was thinking.'
Steely Dan is just genius from start to finish. I recommend listening to the albums in order of release.

assuming you like them
I fear that this is why I have never sought out anything by them. In my simple mind they are filed under "middle of the road / soft rock" (think Genesis / Dire Straits etc) and that doesn’t appeal at all. Heaven forbid !
He with least money has most to sell
Well you can try most or possibly all of it via Youtube and see.
Steely Dan's sound changes somewhat over the years but is nothing like anyone else, nothing like Genesis or Dire Straits.
Neil Young's done everything from very gentle acoustic country to heavy rock. If you want rock try 'Love And Only Love' or 'Fuckin' Up' from 'Ragged Glory'. If that's not heavy enough for you then you can write him off.
