Fun wee Project for when Im back from Holiday...
Improving isolation for glass shelves in my rack.











Ikea style shelf location pins came with a silicone pad on them, but have fallen off over the years.
I've used Blu-tak, self adhesive pads all that stuff, currently not all shelves are the same.
Some are even just sitting glass on metal pin, which aint great.

So decided to fix it, nice way to pass the time of a wet Sunday afternoon I think, I enjoy dabbling with this stuff and it keeps me out of trouble.

M6 Brass Nyloc nut, soldered to shelf brass location pin.
Sillicone Nitride ceramic balls inserted in the nut's nylon "cup" ('a La Naim Fraim concept) and shelves sat on that.
In my setup I've tried to minimise vibration and its harmful effects where I could, and this is just another step. How much difference, who knows, but I'll be happier knowing its done.
This has been a niggle for me for a while, this should give a much better shelf interface with less transferred vibration.

Big thread over on the Naim forum discussing the Fraim and how to recreate the effectiveness of it, Ceramic ball bearings on glass is the way to go.
And as theres a little play in the nylon "cup" that holds the ball bearing, this should level the shelves out much better than they are at the moment.

The Manufacturers of my Hifi rack, Stands Unique (sadly RIP) offered improved ‘carbon support’ shelf pegs, so they knew there was room for improvement.
