250 wpc from the A5 into 8 ohms?
    That should be enough.

Thanks all for those suggestions. I have no idea really what to get, but the Denon PMA 1500 looks amazing! I've seen one on Ebay for £370 with no remote, would one of those after market remotes work? I've got a Harmony one but it only works when it feels like it. Apart from that the Rega Elicit above is well within budget, I dunno, what difference do they all make?

Check to see if you have Denon codings on the Harmony.

As for the difference it will make, your Sugden is near the bottom of the power required to drive the speakers.
A more powerful amp should “grip” the drivers better, giving it better control.

As to which sounds better, I have no idea. I have never heard your speakers, or any of the amps suggested.

They'll all drive the Totem speakers no problem so what sound quality you hear will be defined by the speakers and your room.

Just choose one based on price, features and looks and enjoy the music.

I'm trying to think of the good Sony models up to a 100W? Nothing too old though.

'Proper' Sony was over by the early 1990s really. There's the 770ES I suppose. One on ebay in silver:

Has the end cheeks so European version.
