FS: Hi Fi Porn - MSB M204 monoblocks
For sale: a pair of MSB M204 monoblocks that I purchased directly from the MSB UK distributor. According to MSB these amps were manufactured in late 2018.
The M204 is an evolution of the M200 that came out circa 2009. It was followed by the M202 and M203. Paul Messenger reviewed the M200 for Hi Fi Choice and said, “. . . quite simply, the best amplifier we’ve ever heard.” Subsequently the M203 was the top ranked amp in Martin Colloms’ Hi Fi Critic magazine (which maintained its independence by not accepting advertising). The M204 improved yet further on the M203; “Equipped with a more robust design ethos, the M204 comes with state-of-the-art transformers, ground isolation and shielding technology, and a new 20db lower-noise input stage than the M203.” Make no mistake, this is hi-end kit !
The amps provide 200 wpc into 8 ohms and 400 wpc into 4 ohms. The topology uses 2 amplification stages. The first provides all of the voltage gain and operates entirely in class A, whilst the second operates in class AB and only provides current gain.
The icing on the cake is how these things look. They are genuinely stunning looking and look more like modern sculptures than amplifiers. I am loathe to sell them but I am putting together a horn based speaker system and I just don’t need anything like this much power.
These retailed for almost £40k. I’m asking £11,500 ono. I have the wooden crates they came in.
