I would expect there to be twin rca plus earth lead from the Technics to the phono stage, then just twin rca from there to Sugden. What part of this is missing from your set up?

What phono stage do you have?
I have pretty much every Graham Slee stage currently available, so I can check the user manual.

I also assume that you have fitted the correct type of fuse?

Give Sugden a call. They may be able to help you on the phone.

    Probably a transistor gone bad.

For £150 there's loads of amps just as good on ebay.

Probably get more than that for the Sugden selling it spares or repairs.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.

They're 2400 notes new!! Cost me 1200 about 2 yrs ago, and is the best amp I've had.

    Three grand I think?

I don't see where the value is. Low power, runs hot, power supply is a bit weak (30W into 8 ohm, only 40 into 4 ohm). I'd rather have a Denon or a JVC. You could get a top of the line used one for £1200.
