So this morning we forgo the usual two cd albums and one vinyl album for this retrospective cd box set from one of my top three male American singer songwriters, as for the other two one is definitely Billy Joel the third is a state of constant flux !

The three-disc box-set was designed and edited by Simon himself and includes only three previously unreleased tracks: "Thelma" (which was left off The Rhythm of the Saints); the original demo version of "Bridge over Troubled Water"; and a live rendition of "Still Crazy After All These Years". Noteworthy omissions from the compilation are "Homeward Bound" and "I Am a Rock", which seems odd when thee are alternate versions to Bridge Over Troubled Water and the Sound of Silence.

The Blue Nile were a Scottish band which originated in Glasgow. Not unsurprisingly perhaps they were signed originally by Linn Records, yes that is the same Linn of LP12 fame !( The company that very proudly proclaimed on their product boxes Made In Scotland )!

The group's early music was built heavily on synthesizers and electronic instrumentation and percussion, although later works featured guitar more prominently. Following early championing by established artists such as Rickie Lee Jones and Peter Gabriel (the band later worked with both acts), the Blue Nile gained critical acclaim, particularly for their first two albums A Walk Across the Rooftops and Hats, and some commercial success in both the UK and the US, which led to the band working with a wide range of musicians from the late 1980s onwards.

I knew of The Blue Nile but knew nothing about them. So I've now got Alexa educating me First song she's put on is called "High" from a 2004 album of the same name, according to Shazam. Look at me, embracing technology!

Next one is called "Because of Toledo" from the same album. Not sure about this, but I'll keep going, perhaps I'll prefer their earlier stuff.

The Scottish band The Blue Nile has enjoyed a mystique contrived by its inaccessibility and the infrequency of its recordings, but it has also made a series of critically acclaimed discs. The group was formed by three Glasgow natives who had graduated from university there: singer/songwriter/guitarist Paul Buchanan, bassist Robert Bell, and keyboardist Paul Joseph Moore. (Engineer Callum Malcolm and drummer Nigel Thomas have worked with the trio consistently, to the point of being considered secondary bandmembers.)
The Blue Nile is the title of Alan Moorehead's 1962 sequel to The White Nile, the two books making up a history of the Nile River. They recorded their own single, "I Love This Life," which was distributed by Robert Stigwood's RSO Records just before the company closed its doors. They were then signed by Linn Products, which released their debut album, A Walk Across the Rooftops, in 1984.

Only the 4 albums plus a couple of solo albums, over the years, although the band did reissue all 4 albums on their own label a few months ago, the original releases are all quite expensive to pick up.

I listened to the Blue Nile on Qobuz for the first time today, quite impressed.
