My recommendations for further listening would be any of the three 'Compass Point Trilogy' releases (Warm Leatherette, Nightclubbing and Living my Life). Though the middle one (Nightclubbing) is my personal favourite. These three albums were produced with what were called "The Compass Point All-stars", which included Sly Dunbar on drums and Robbie Shakespeare performing bass duties. Produced by Island's Chris Blackwell, they have a sound that is very different to the Trevor Horn-produced "Slave to the Rhythm".
The album I was playing ("Hurricane") sees the return of Sly and Robbie, and with it some of the flavour of her older releases, but it's a patchy affair imo, by turns running out of steam, getting a second wind, then losing momentum again. I actually prefer the downtempo, more introspective songs on here, where she takes a break from telling us how scary she is.
