A 650 feet long suburban street set with seventeen semi-detached houses was constructed for this movie. Apparently, at the time at least, it was the largest set built in the UK for twenty-five years.

"News reel" footage shown in the cinemas of the RAF versus the Luftwaffe is actually from Battle of Britain (1969).

Bill's aunts are called "Faith, Hope and Charity", which Grandfather George claims were named by Grandma after character traits he didn't have. This is a reference to the Bible, specifically 1 Corinthians 13:13: "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these [is] charity". Bill's mother is called Grace, also a theological virtue.

The film was among some of the most popular British films to be released in 1954, with critics praising the comedy and several of the cast members for their performances, including Sim's dual role as the headmistress Miss Millicent Fritton and her twin brother Clarence Fritton.^[2] The film was the first to be produced in the St. Trinian's film series.

The evidence is pretty slim, but nonetheless fun to include – the photo in the NSA file of Hackman they bring up in Enemy Of The State is the same one from The Conversation.''

Sir Roger Moore and Lee Marvin got into a fight during filming, which Moore won. Marvin recalled, "The guy is built like granite. Nobody will ever underestimate him again."

The story of this movie was inspired by one of the most spectacular and adventurous events that took place during World War I, in German East Africa, later Tanganyika, later Tanzania, in late 1914 to early 1915, known as the Battle of Rufiji Delta, in which the German light cruiser S.M.S. Königsberg was blockaded, and finally sunk by various British units.
