What constitutes "working class rock"? To my ears they were heavily influenced by The Beatles; so pop rather than rock, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Were the Beatles not working class ???? The definition of pop can be debated, does it mean simply popular? In which case Metallica is as much pop as the Spice Girls were. Or is it a musical genre? Does it simply mean catchy? In which case, anything of any genre can be catchy if written that way. Oasis sound is certainly rock music, they had a standard rock band line up, their music was guitar driven and took from not just the Beatles, but T-Rex, The Sex Pistols, Slade and David Bowie to name a few. Their music was certainly "heavier" than the Beatles but also more one dimensional than the Beatles who tried their hand at all sorts of styles away from their early rock n roll rooted sound.

With the possible exception of John - yes, but that does not answer my question. So is "working class rock" a musical genre? And in the case of Oasis, should it not be working-class pop?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

seen an interview with Noel Gallagher where he says he doesn't understand why he gets accused of ripping off the Beatles since he was actually ripping off Slade and T-Rex.
