I'm James.
Pairs up nicely with the TEAC - matching LED colours. Sony built some great gear back then for the consumer market.
The remote has 90 buttons on it
Volume pot is motorised so it moves when you change volume with the remote. Nice.
47 page manual - and yes that's just the English bit. You can connect 5 VCRs simultaneously!
Now have it hooked up to proper speakers so will do a bit of SQ assesment. Bear in mind the DAC in this unit is 35 years old - will it matter?
Current Lash Up:
TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > Troels Gravesen Faital 3WC-15.

It converts all analogue inputs to digital - there's no pass-through. So there's no point using an external DAC with it, you'd just be adding an extra D-A/A-D stage.
Visually it's a great match for the TEAC - exact same shade of black, very similar feet, and same colour orange LEDs.
That is the important stuff, not some tiny nuance of difference in the SQ
Played a few albums through it so far and it's not let itself down yet.

But what analogue signals would you put into it? I thought you was CD only, coming from a transport, not a player. I was thinking it would be a toss up between the Sony's DAC and say, your Topping into an analogue input.
Edit: Just twigged with your "converts all analogue inputs to digital" comments. I get it, I think. My brain hurts now.
