Turned out ok, IN THE END! When it stopped raining I cheered up, local cafe was actually open, lovely staff in there, read for 2 hours, a most riveting book - 'A line in the sand', on the Sykes-Picot agreement, very topical. Enjoying some Beaujolais with ham and cheese now, so not bad! Roast beef to come, not sure what that will be like, the horseradish sauce I attempted is naff! Merry shitmas and a crappy new year!

I admire your attempt to make horseradish sauce. The root is very tough to grate, but I'm sure if you persevere fresh horseradish sauce is much better than that out of a jar. It's the same with mustard - freshly made mustard always tastes better.
