The formation of a republic is a solution, but could it be achieved without the concomitant bloodshed?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Between what - a monarchy and a republic? There is a big difference, but some republican presidents get the constitution changed so that they can remain in office for a long time, if not for a lifetime.

Exactly, just like the Arab nationalists did in the Post colonial middle east. Get rid of the Kings, have a sham election, then the President is the new king, only replaced upon death.

It would be amazing to have an anti-royal uprising though, can you imagine the news? 'Today King Charles and his wife Camilla were murdered by a baying mob of Republicans in their home in (wherever the fuck they live). And the Daily Mail headlines 'Animals!' lol.

And all the vacated royal residences can be used to house asylum seekers. Would need a few upgrades first (better broadband, reliable bus service, room service). Then they can have my house too, because I'd be buggering off abroad to one of the counties deemed not good enough for them.

What I don't get is, if they wrote the Fundamental Charter of Human Rights just after the war before it was invented, who thought to put strong WiFi in it? They must have been pretty canny to think that far forward.
