King crimson - Red - bought this new/sealed on Ebay, had a fucking scratch on first track side 2, after returning 2 previous ebay used records, cos they were an absolute pile of shit, 'excellent' records with constant surface noise, I thought fuck it, buy new, and then! Christ.

Much as it pains me to say it, but as things stand my vote is for CD too. Just too many greedy bastards about taking advantage of the vinyl resurgence. Mike's experiences are all too common, where used copies are rated unrealistically, and new vinyl quality is patchy at best.
I bought a used copy of Hawkwind's first album a couple of weeks ago. Ok I only paid a tenner, but the thing is unplayable. I could have got it on brand new CD for less than that.
My vinyl collection is quite modest compared to many on here (about 500), but that's enough to see me out. There's only so many hours in a day, and my body only so many years left on the clock. So... with the odd exception it will be pretty much CD-only in my buying future, until the vinyl bubble bursts or I peg it, whichever comes first.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

I had this conversation with a vinyl man not so long ago. I said 'You're a musician, you've made recordings in studios, you must hear that the ambient sound around the instruments that the mic captures gets totally blotted out by the noise from the vinyl?'
He said 'Yes, I know it does, but vinyl still has a certain something I like that I can't define.'

Probably just feels an emotional connection to the music this way, can't knock that. Sometimes logic doesn't come into it.
Be honest it's just the same with yourself, in other ways. Modern TV shows are filmed in higher resolution, with better sound quality, some clever camera/CGI techniques, and often plots that are often less predictable. But... we still watch Minder, Magnum PI etc, which you doubtless prefer to anything currently being made.
The current crop of Jaguar cars are more comfortable, faster, more economical than they ever were, but I bet you'd much rather own a 1960s Mk 10.
It's not necessarily what it does, but rather how it makes us feel.
