And the rest of the time he just looks startled.

"On Deadly Ground". It's got Steven Seagal in it, so I won't be sticking with it, even though Michael Caine's there too. But right now he's sat in a spit 'n' sawdust roadhouse with country and western playing in the background. He's observing some big thug with a sleeveless denim bullying a little bloke. I'll stick around to find out what happens next.

Well he battered the thug. I didn't see that coming. Now what's on the rest of the telly?

Three Days of the Condor, 1975.. bluray.

Former CIA director Richard Helms acted as a personal consultant to Robert Redford for his role as The Condor.

When they are reminiscing, Higgins asks Wabash whether he served with "Col. Donovan" during World War II - a reference to William J. Donovan, founder of the Office of Strategic Services, the precursor to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency. Wabash replies, "I sailed the Adriatic with a movie star at the helm" - referring to actor Sterling Hayden, who served with the OSS, running the German blockade of the Adriatic during WWII to get supplies to Yugoslav partisans.

When Joe is in the sporting goods store and about to kidnap Kathy, he's peering out from a rack of parkas. The hangers are alternated in/out/in. Any fan of Dragnet (1951) knows this is a method of anti-theft; it prevents someone from grabbing several parkas at once and making off with them.

This, and the first Red film, both good fun. Shame about Bruce, he's not doing well.

    The Fog, 1980, bluray.

Although this was essentially a low budget independent movie, John Carpenter chose to shoot the movie in anamorphic widescreen Panavision. This decision gave the movie a grander feel for the viewer so this didn't seem like a low budget horror movie.

The lead ghost, Blake, was played by makeup specialist Rob Bottin. When Bottin asked for the job, John Carpenter asked him to "stand up". Bottin then expected Carpenter to say, "...and get out!" When Carpenter saw that Bottin was a very large man at 6' 5, which was needed for the character Blake, he was hired.

So did I, and I feel no need to see it again. Once you have seen it and know when the 'shocks' occur, they loose their impact.
