    Listening to Hot rats now, it's one their most listenable LPs.

    Got that on LP must be 30 years ago. Listened to it once.

    My favourite Beefheart is 'Clear Spot'.

    'Trout Mask Replica', for some inexplicable reason, is often cited as one of the most important LPs released. But no-one AFAIK has given a plausable reason why.

    I think it is because it is unlistenable, but because of Beefheart/Zappa's fame the reviewers thought they would loose face if they criticised the album.

    Rumour has it that Beefheart had just bought a new hat which he refused to remove in the studio, so he could use headphones. Thus he couldn't hear what the other musicians were playing. But it might be an urban myth.
