Had a liver 'fibroscan' test today, it tests the stiffness of the liver, obviously the stiffer the liver, the more fibrosis/cirrhosis it has. I'm 53 and have drank pretty solidly since I left school and am glad to report a completely healthy score of 5.8 kpa, 5.3 is the healthy average. Bring it on!!!

How to spend a lot of time not achieving much. Quite clever though.

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

The fine speed control on my TD124 uses an eddy current break.

I thought it might be used as a recharge system for a battery like in cars

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

What is the point of Post Offices? While I do feel sorry for all those postmasters who were wrongly convicted and jailed, I do think most of them should be sacked due to being next to useless.
If I call at a post office at 12.30 I find that they are closed between 12 and 1pm. If I call at one after 1pm I find this particular one closes between 1 and 2pm. Or as has happened today I get there at 12.05pm to be smugly told they close at 12 on Saturday and re-open on Monday
We can send letters through the air via email, it's only a matter of time before we can do the same with parcels. That'll wipe the smug grin of their faces.

Our post office used to be massive with about 20 windows. Them they moved to smaller place, then an even smaller one.
Then they divided the smaller one so it was even smaller. Then they closed for good.
Now I have to go to the one in the 'University Quarter' and queue round the block with the poxy students.
Worse still the bone idle 'dead slow and stop' bint who worked at our one transferred to that one so you can't even escape that.
I mean really you would need stop-motion photography to even see her moving.

The post office next to where I used to work was lined with hardboard sheets with holes drilled to attach hooks for hanging items for sale on, most of which were empty. Painted a fetching shade of green. It had two counters, one of which was permanently closed with a dog-eared piece of cardboard over it with the message 'position closed' written in felt tip.
There was no heating in there for the customers, but the postmaster had a year-round matching green pullover and gilet and a small two-bar electric fire pointed at him. The bastard. The whole place looked like a sixties Soviet supermarket in miniature.
