I always thought it was a design thing? I wind and set my watches before I put them on so the side the crown is on is immaterial it’s very difficult to do this when the watch is on anyway unless it has a large crown.

part of its design.
The crown is pretty large on it at 8mm, so can use it on the wrist _left or right_ no problem.
