    Are the 'high end' marques displayed in the window genuine watches or dummies (that is devoid of a mechanism)? It could be that such an empty case could be fitted with a generic mechanism.

    These days it's the 'Superclones' you have to beware of, getting ever closer to the original (they even make a copy of the Rolex movement!).

    So, are the high-end watches displayed in jewellers windows genuine or dummies? Some jewellers will remove them from the window when they close (so I assume the watches are genuine), whereas other jewellers don't (thus are display dummies)?

    Not sure Barry, for Rolex ‘exhibition only’ models there’s no conclusive information, working and dummy non-working watches have been encountered.
