The M6 has been closed after a large quantity of milk spilled onto the carriageway when a tanker crashed.
It hit the central reservation while travelling north between junctions 31 and 32 near Preston at about 07:00 BST and then crashed through into the southbound carriageway.
Lancashire Police said the motorway could be closed for "most of the day" after the milk and diesel spillage.
The Chief Constable of Lancashire Constabulary has had to do without his crunchy nut cornflakes

I was in that traffic queue. Although the accident had happened some time earlier in the day, nobody had thought to warn us of this on the overhead thingys so that we could decide to come off at the next exit.
After an hour and a half of not going anywhere, Mrs. P got sick of it. So she got herself over to the hard shoulder, got onto the 'on' ramp of the junction and went up it the wrong way. The ramp was closed off with cones at the top, so we weren't going to meet anything coming the other way. She'd started a trend, because behind us was a convoy of other cars doing the same thing.
All the other routes into Preston would have been a nightmare, so instead of getting my granddaughter's birthday present to her, we went to the pub for some nosebag instead.
I'll be driving past there in half an hour, hopefully they'll have got their shit together by then.

I might give up motorways entirely soon and go back to the A roads. We did this on holiday and only put half an hour on our journey. No hold ups and much more relaxed and I could drive mostly at 50 mph which is the same speed for much of the motorway network in this country.

Years ago I got stuck on the M5 near Bristol for ages and decided motorways were no longer for me.I might give up motorways entirely soon and go back to the A roads. We did this on holiday and only put half an hour on our journey. No hold ups and much more relaxed and I could drive mostly at 50 mph which is the same speed for much of the motorway network in this country.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

The problem with motorways are numerous as I have found using them extensively throughout my life but recently I have noticed they have got far worse either through more traffic or use of smart motorways. Traffic is restricted to a certain speed very regularly on these between 40-60 mph. Add in the amount of roadworks on any given motorway, then incidents which can be absolutely nothing or a major accident plus bad weather and the whole recipe is a disaster. I can't remember one motorway journey in the past 2 years that has not gone without incident!
The stress and boredom of motorways is also another negative factor. The only positive factor I can think of is they may get you from A to B EVENTUALLY.
Because of all the accumulative "problems" on motorways the average speed now seems to be about 55mph so the A roads start to look a much better proposition and are far more interesting, relaxing and stress free!

dont have much motorway up here tbh, but like everywhere else, if there is a problem your stuck with it. i dont drive much and 95% of that is not in the rush, so can pick n choose. electric car prefers not to run at 70+ anyway so a rds are fine
