Some excellent photography in this in post war London...
Although two of its stars died tragically young, almost 70 years later at the beginning of 2020 two of its actors were still alive: Earl Cameron (102) and Leslie Phillips (95). Another, Renée Asherson, died in 2014 at the age of 99.
This was the first British film to show a mixed-race romance.

Went the Day Well?, 1944..
When the man running the pub in the village where the film was being shot discovered that he had used up his alcohol ration on the film crew, he was so distraught he committed suicide.
The basic premise of this film inspired the 1975 Jack Higgins novel (later a film) 'The Eagle Has landed'.
The poem from which the title is taken and which appears at the start of the film, is actually the second of four epitaphs written in 1918 by Greek scholar John Maxwell Edmonds. These were written for graves and memorials for those who died in battle. The full epitaph included a heading, "On Some who died early in the Day of Battle Went the day well? We died and never knew. But, well or ill, Freedom, we died for you." Another of Edmonds' epitaphs is "When you go home, tell them of us and say, For your tomorrows these gave their today".

I was reminded of "Soldier Blue" when I watched the recent 'western' on TV "The English", because of some of the autrocities hinted there.
No doubt some would say the criticism of the actions by the American Cavalry as being "woke".

a sign of times i guess re 15.. it still has a lot of cuts in it but yes i like film in general as it was well done, although perhaps the visuals are overly unnessessary, and it could perhaps have been implied like they used to do; but what do i know.
