I thought it was histrionic and stagey, not to mention all the clumsy heavy handed metaphors about class. But apparently the critics think it's ok, so may be I'm missing something. Another 'classic' kitchen sink drama that I saw recently for the first time was A kind of Loving, which in contrast had an understated style, whose meanings are revealed rather than shouted.
