Plenty Coffey; not much of what you want, tho you can have turnip salad..
The UK environment secretary, Thérèse Coffey, has caused a furore after she suggested people should “cherish” seasonal foods such as turnips as bad weather cleared supermarket shelves of tomatoes and other fresh produce.
“It’s important to make sure that we cherish the specialisms that we have in this country,” Coffey told parliament. “A lot of people would be eating turnips right now rather than thinking necessarily about aspects of lettuce and tomatoes and similar.”
With a love of turnips more commonly associated with the long-suffering manservant Baldrick in Blackadder, Coffey handed her critics the kind of material they could normally only dream of.
“Let them eat turnips!” suggested the Labour MP Ben Bradshaw, using the hashtag #TomatoShortages, as “turnips” started to trend on Twitter timelines for possibly the first time.
Coffey made her comments after being called to the Commons to answer an urgent question about supermarket rationing of salad ingredients, owing to shortages caused by bad weather in Spain and north Africa. She had been trying to make a point about eating seasonally.
“I’m conscious that consumers want a year-round choice and that is what our supermarkets, food producers and growers around the world try to satisfy,” she added.
Was a bounty of this unloved root vegetable part of the promised Brexit dividend? people asked, as they shared doctored images of campaign buses emblazoned with “forget tomatoes, let’s eat turnips instead”.
The rest of Europe including Ukraine have plenty tho..???? i wonder why

Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?
“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”
“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

It's true that as from about the '80s we have become used to enjoying 'non-seasonal' vegetables and fruits here in the UK - to the point that when there is a shortage we get upset.
The current shortage is due to what was traditionally known as "the Gap": the time gap between when locally-produced veg was unobtaiable due to winter weather, and the Spring growing season. The Gap is now filled by importing veg and fruit from Europe and Africa. North Africa has suffered from very cold weather, snow and hail; hence low yield. Europe is enjoying what it has produced, and sees no real reason to share it with the UK. In the UK, local farmers are unable to sell to supermarkets because the supermarkets won't pay the prices asked (the 'Contract problem'), and we can't import from the EU for reasons mentioned and also because of Brexit we have made it more difficult to do so.![]()

Interestingly I bought a punnet of strawberries last weekend, they are from Morocco too, I suppose they are less vulnerable to stormy weather even though they are very close to tomatoes genetically.

Apart from apricots, there isn't any fruit or vegatables that we cannot get locally: if the local supermarket doesn't have it, the greengrocer does. Maybe a little more expensive, but I don't pay too much attention to prices - unless they are obvious and outrageous: such as the price of milk and of certain breads.
Tonight for dessert, we had fresh mango, and for breakfast this morning I had fresh raspberries on my (alarmingly expensive) museli.
