    A New Leaf, 1971... super little film from Matthau and May.



    The original story included a sub-plot in which Henry discovers from the household accounts that Henrietta is being blackmailed on dubious grounds by the lawyer, McPherson, and a third party; and Henry poisons both of them. This darkly casts Henry's eventual resignation to lead a conventional life with Henrietta as his "sentence". By eliminating the sub-plot, Paramount got rid of the excess (3 hour) running time, avoided the awkwardness of Henry getting away with murder, and transformed the same ending into a positive and rather sweet statement of love and personal redemption.

    My Favorite Brunette, 1947.. a classic hope comedy...



    According to a contemporary article in "The Hollywood Reporter", Paramount re-created San Quentin's death row and gas chamber for this film.

    According to a Paramount press release, Dorothy Lamour wears a dress by legendary costume designer Edith Head made out of 14-carat gold cloth from the last of the studio's pre-war stock.

    Ronnie's car is a 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe. The bad guy's car is a 1939 Rolls-Royce Wraith.

    The N.S.A. refused to cooperate with the production. Aerial footage of their headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland had to be shot from public air space.

    Gene Hackman turned down this movie several times, but was ultimately convinced to sign on after a phone call by director Tony Scott. Will Smith later signed on at a relative post-Independence Day (1996) bargain price because he wanted to work with Hackman.

    When Edward "Brill" Lyle (Gene Hackman) is taking Robert Clayton Dean (Will Smith) into the warehouse "office", one can see that it is a self-made Faraday Cage. It's a construct which design completely shields those inside from sending or receiving electromagnetic signals.

    I watched the 1959 version yesterday, they seem to have sorted out the colour problem since I last saw it.

    they did give it the hd treatment in 2015 so might have been that version..
