I can't see the UK need for bullying tactics towards owners of older cars, surely natural attrition will see these all eventually in scrapyards?
My car is very low emission, but I sympathise with those who want to carry on using their trusty older motors. After all, they don't get an MOT if they run dirty.

more modern cars seem to be lasting better. in 1994, only 6% of cars over 13 years old were still on road.. in 2019 it was 19%

Corrosion resistance is definitely better these days, you don't see that many rusty cars on the road. In my early days of driving, I used to dream of one day owning a car without rust.

I rustproofed my now eight year old runabout from new. Every accessible area and cavity including scuttle drains has been waxoiled or soaked with oil. Not a spec of rust to be seen even underneath, but it's only done 3000 miles a year. Still on its original battery too.
