The Adjustment Bureau, 2011...matt damon and emily blunt..(emily is always watchable)




The names of the three main members of the Adjustment Bureau are Thompson, Richardson, and Harry: a play on the term Tom, Dick, and Harry, which is slang for any anonymous persons. Phillip K. Dick is also the writer of the short story the movie is based on.

Some of Emily Blunt's dancing scenes were completed using a body double, dancer Acacia Schachte of the Cedar Lake Company, with the actress' face being digitally placed on the dancer's body.

The first of three films Emily Blunt has been in where characters try to change the future; the other two are Looper (2012) and Edge of Tomorrow (2014). ( both excellent films by way)

Why do I find Emily Blunt sexy? She's not a classical beauty, but very, very attractive.

Philip K. Dick is one of my favourite SF authors - but sadly, IMO, few films based on his writings work. 'Total Recall' being an obvious example.

Peggy Sue Got Married, 1986..



In the original script, Rosalie, the woman in the wheelchair at Peggy Sue's high school reunion, was a gymnast who was crippled in an accident. In the original script, Peggy Sue tried to take advantage of her knowledge of the future. She invented pantyhose, encouraged people to invest in Xerox, and tried to prevent Rosalie from hurting herself.

While "visiting" 1960, Peggy Sue warns her sister about eating red M&Ms. Red M&Ms were discontinued in 1976, when Red #2 dye was named as a suspected carcinogen. In 1986--after the film was released--red M&Ms were reintroduced with a different red dye.

The opening shot of the film is an optical illusion. Because the camera and crew would have been seen in the reflection of the mirror had the scene been shot in a conventional manner, there is a body double for Kathleen Turner (only she can be seen from behind in the shot) on the other side of the "mirror," doing the exact opposite of the star's movements, giving the illusion that Turner and Helen Hunt are reflections, when in fact they are the real actors in tableau with a body double sitting in front of them with her back to the camera in front of an empty mirror frame, framing a hole in the wall of the set.

I have seen that film (will watch anything with Kathleen Turner in it) - but sadly remember very little of it.

The Day the Earth Caught Fire, 1961... bluray remaster..






Towards the end, Peter (Edward Judd) is driving to Jeannie's (Janet Munro's) apartment, when he stops to talk to a policeman, who was played by Sir Michael Caine.

The realistic newspaper footage was shot in the Fleet Street offices of Express Newspapers and gives a vivid picture of the "old" London Fleet Street industry (most British newspapers have now moved out of this area, which was famous as a press center). "Express" editor Arthur Christiansen plays himself in this movie.

Janet Munro appears topless from the front for a fraction of a second. you have to look in the mirror.This and the subject caused the movie to receive an "X" certificate from the British Board of Film Censors upon release, barring anyone under sixteen from seeing it.(it was 16 in those days, since uprated to 18 oddly)

Saw it in the cinema on it's release. Don't remember the split-second 'topless' shot - but it was a long time ago, and I was very, very young! (Stricly speaking, too young to be allowed admission.)

emily isn't a traditionally beauty, but she is just so desireable.

I have seen that film (will watch anything with Kathleen Turner in it) - but sadly remember very little of it.

its a fun film and some good actors in it; decent story premise, which maybe goes a little awry at end. think the original script might have been better tbh.

you have to be looking in miirror which really aren't and it is very split second really.

M*A*S*H, 1970...




The fourteen-year-old son of director Robert Altman, Mike, wrote the lyrics to the theme song "Suicide is Painless". Because of its inclusion in the subsequent television series, he continued to get residuals throughout its run and syndication. His father was paid $75,000 for directing, but his son eventually made about $2 million in song royalties, with payments continuing, from first syndication through the present day, as M*A*S*H (1972) continues in syndication around the world.

The operating scenes were almost cut out due to their graphic nature. However, two women who were visiting the set told the producers that the operating scenes were what made the movie, and should be kept in.

A classic for me this, and way better than the series(that did somewhat better for some odd quirk, that is the USA)lol

Yes it's a very good film - though the attempt to find out if Hotlips is a true blonde is fallible and not conclusive.

The Thing, 2011... a prequel...




In the 1982 version the Norwegian helicopter was a Bell 206 Jet Ranger with stripes painted on the tail and the call sign LKK painted on the side. In the 2011 version the same helicopter is used, with the same paint design and the same call sign on its fuselage.

The dog-Thing that carries the shape-shifting alien to the American base is depicted as a Siberian Husky in this film. However, in The Thing (1982), the dog is a Siberian Malamute, not a Husky; although both species are sled dogs. This is the reason why the dog looks different in this film than its appearance in the John Carpenter movie.

The African Queen, 1951...



Humphrey Bogart won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in this movie, making him the last man born in the 19th century to ever win a leading role Oscar.

The African Queen was actually the L.S. Livingston, which had been a working diesel boat for 40 years. The steam engine was a prop, and the real diesel engine was hidden under stacked crates of gin and other cargo. It is now docked next to the Holiday Inn in Key Largo, FL, just off US Highway 1.
