Clint Eastwood has on the same gun belt and holster that Eastwood as "The Man with No Name" wore in the "Dollars" trilogy.. the three Spaghetti Western movies directed by Sergio Leone.

During a Q&A at the TCM Film Fest in 2015, Shirley Maclaine had this to say about Clint Eastwood: "Quite brilliant, and funny, because he's so laconic and doesn't know it. I adore him. I remember when we were doing Two Mules for Sister Sara, his horse was acting up. This is when I knew he's a true Republican. He got off the horse, looked at the horse, and socked him."

Character Maynard Boyle's line, "They're gonna strip you naked and go to work on you with a pair of pliers and a blowtorch," is paraphrased in Pulp Fiction (1994) by character Marsellus Wallace.

Walter Matthau's character makes love repeatedly to Felicia Farr's character. She was the wife of his longtime comedic partner, Jack Lemmon.

A western now, and Hawks' Rio Lobo, 1970. The 3rd making by hawks/wayne of pretty much same story.





When Howard Hawks told John Wayne that he was remaking Rio Bravo (1959) for the second time, Wayne's immediate response was: "Do I get to play the drunk this time?"

The film had numerous issues. Hawks was over 70, Wayne was 53 and fat. The female lead, Jennifer O'neil was inexperienced and thought she was Bacall. The other male lead, Jorge Rivero was Mexican and didn't speak english very well. It all contributed to a picture that could have been much better.

Interestingly most if not all the guns used were either mock ups or Anachronisms...





wayne's 1892 winchester rifle .. its a Saddle Ring Carbine with a large loop lever in . 44-40 form.



and a colt single action he used.. dates from 1873 onwards.
the film mostly dates from a year after war ended.

Over Cary Grant's protests, a skating double wearing a mask with Grant's features was used in the long shots of the complex skating routine. A skating double was also used for Loretta Young on all long shots.
The harp playing for Cary Grant was done by Mr. Gail Laughton, Laughton's hands are seen in the film during close-ups of Grant's character playing the harp.

Originally Cary Grant played the bishop and David Niven the angel. When original director William A. Seiter left the film, Henry Koster replaced him and viewed what had been shot so far. He realized that the two were in the wrong roles. It took some convincing because Grant wanted the title role of the Bishop. He eventually accepted the change and his role as the angel was one of the most widely praised of his career.
