I love it when something in music takes you by surprise, and this is one of those.
This is a record I was recently given by an older friend in a batch of about 40, all in exceptionally good condition. So I thought I would have a listen and I am a bit taken back by how good it is, yes it is "Big Band Sound" of the era but it is done exceptionally well. I looked up Max Greger and he was a very successful Saxophonist and Big Band leader, his first Sextet he put together in 1948, in 1963 he put together and ran a full time top orchestra for ZDF. So a very accomplished and respected musician. There are very interesting renditions of "Whiter Shader of Pale" and "We Can Work It Out", as well as several standards all arranged and played beautifully. I suppose a bit like James Last but sounds less gimmicky. It originally sold in old money for 14s/6d so must be early 70's. If you are into big band music and fancy giving it a try there are several copies at very reasonable prices on Discogs.

Agreed it not that bad, but it's not that good either. I find it mediocre and therefore unlikely to play it. Despite having heard much of their output, I'm quite happy to stay with their first four LPs.
