The radio presenter reading the news broadcast to which Valeri Petrofsky (Pierce Brosnan) is listening for information was Frederick Forsyth. (not many people know that)

yes its a great, early forsyth novel to screen. think there were 4 all pretty good earlyish ones of which this is probably the best. they remade it under the title, 'the jackal' if memory serves. it was supposedly poor fare, although ive not seen it.

I'm guessing the other two are "The Odessa File" and "The Dogs of War". Read both the books but only saw the "Odessa" film, which was great imo. I'll look out for the Dogs of War film, I know I enjoyed the book.

I saw The Jackal remake, and thought it was a bit meh, but not unwatchable.

'Dogs of War' is a bit disappointing compared to the book, but it's worth a watch.

I seem to remember that in "The Dogs of War" novel, Mr Forsyth went into some detail about the cost of mercenaries and their weapons/logistics, which added interest to an already good read. Maybe I'll just re-read the book.

Another good film, although Kim Philby died of old age, rather than being shot. I have a DVD copy somewhere.

That's the bulk of the film too but it's not done as well as the same process in 'Day Of The Jackal.' Not the same standard of direction, acting or script.

Farewell My Lovely,1975. Bob Mitchum stars.








The dark pin-striped suit worn by Robert Mitchum in the film was the only one available from the wardrobe department, with no backup suit available if needed. Originally made for Victor Mature during the 1940s, Mitchum hated the outfit, and complained constantly(typical Mitch) during production about having to wear "Victor Mature's old farted-up suit."

The filming of Farewell, My Lovely (1975) was a trip down memory lane for Robert Mitchum. The movie brought him back to the derelict neighborhoods he knew decades prior when he was a poverty stricken teenager. One night, as Mitchum handed money to vagrants on the streets, his actions attracted the attention of an old beat cop on patrol. The officer took a good look at Bob and said, "So you're back."

Third film version of Raymond Chandler's "Farewell, My Lovely" novel. The first was The Falcon Takes Over (1942) in 1942 and the second was Murder, My Sweet (1944) in 1944.

I've recently re-read most of Chandler's stories, they are excellent! 'The High Window' is my favourite I think.
