'The Sweeny' - classic episode where Tristram's dad off of 'George And Mildred' joins the squad, but he bottles it when they have to go against slags who are tooled up.

Saw all of them when they were repeated in the late 1970s but I think I was too young then to really appreciate just how good this series was. Puts the modern rubbish to shame in every respect - acting, direction, characters, dialogue, camera work, you name it.

They've got no idea how to make proper telly these days. It's a disgrace, really.

Despite its low budget, the finished film was regarded by the BBC as being suitable for a cinema release internationally. The BBC decided to terminate screenings in the UK and disallow future screenings in the UK. In an interview with Francine Stock for BBC Radio 4's Film Programme in 2007, Peter O'Toole named the film as his favourite among those that he had made.

Outside the club car, the steward George (Clarence Muse) identifies a uniformed man as a Navy flyer, then adds that his son is in the Army. "He's gong to be a flyer, too." This is a reference to the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first Black military aviators in the U.S. armed forces.

This was the second time that Charles Gray played Mycroft Holmes. He previously did so in The Seven-Per-Cent Solution.

This episode has the first reference to The Diogenes Club. Dr Watson asks Holmes what the qualifications for membership of the club are. Holmes replies that they are "shyness and misanthropy."

This series was very much correct on Victorian fashion and Sidney Paget's illustrations on Arthur Conan Doyle's stories. Therefore, Sherlock Holmes is only wearing the trademark deerstalker on several occasions while visiting the countryside, and not even all of them. In episodes set in London, Holmes is more often seen wearing a top hat, although a few episodes show him with a bowler or a homburg.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, 2006.





The scene when Jack Sparrow calls Davy Jones "fish face", and sings to them "I got a jar of dirt", was unscripted and improvised by Johnny Depp, most of the reactions of the rest of the characters are real.

A popular pirate punishment was marooning. The pirate who was being punished was put on an island and left, sometimes for a few days, sometimes permanently. The "dead man's chest" is a small rocky island, so called because the rocks reminded pirates of a ribcage. It has no water or shade, and is so low that waves frequently wash over it. To be marooned on the "chest" was to be given a death sentence under the broiling Caribbean sun.
