Was driving me big luton van on sunday, when it suddenly started pulling to the right, thought the steering rack was leaking again, so stopped and filled it, that did nothing (been waiting months for new rack). Got home and saw that drivers side wheel was misaligned, slightly bent out, so went to drive it to garage monday morning, and as soon as I went to pull out, the drivers side front tyre burst. Called AA and they said the drivers side upper wishbone had completely sheared off, so had to wait for a big truck to take me to garage. Had its MOT back in August. It's a 2008 van, so getting on a bit. Just lucky it didn't happen while on the road on sunday, my missus was with me then as well. I really need to buy another freaking van, at the least a smaller one for work and private use. I did go over a speed bump too fast the other day, as there are many around my area, and it get's tedious. Also someone told me that on monday morning a taxi backed into me, couldn't see any damage, but may'be he helped to dislodge the wishbone. Just goes to show an MOT isn't solid proof that your vehicle is road worthy.

If it's not speed bumps, it's pot holes in the road. The council will only do something about pot holes if they are at least 2 inches deep (and only if there have been several complaints about an individual hole). The state of the roads in this country is embarassing!

Apropos MOTs, some garages have higher standards than others. I once had my car MOT'd at a different place from my usual garage (my usual garage were having their ramp safety checked at the time). The car passed, but there were a couple of observations concerning the exhaust and the engine subframe, both showing signs of corrosion. I went back to my garage for their advice and for a quotation to have the work done. In their opinion the car would not have passed the MOT if they had tested it.

The spare parts were also no longer available - so a new car; choosing a replacement was something I had been putting off for too long.

Van still in garage, had to hire one to make good my booking tomorrow, and the fact that I am also moving myself, bit of a clusterfuck!

The former director of public prosecutions Lord Ken Macdonald has said today's police statement about what should be included in Sue Gray’s report is "surprising and quite unhelpful".

Lord Macdonald tells BBC Radio 4's World at One it's a "bit of a stretch" to suggest that publishing the Gray report might tip off people in advance before the police have questioned them.

"These people all know what they have done or haven't done, and I very much doubt that anything Sue Gray says is going to come as any great surprise to any of the protagonists," he says.

Macdonald says it seems like a "very cautious" - perhaps overly cautious - move by the Met Police in the face of "powerful" public interest in the publication of the report.

He adds that it's "highly undesirable" that this situation is left hanging in the air "a moment longer than necessary".

A stitch up says (Boris called him the man who ate all the pies) SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford. He says Sue Gray needs to get on the phone to the Metropolitan Police and tell them it is in the public interest for her report to be published.

He says many people had called for the Met to investigate sooner and that the situation "does look as if it has been a stitch up" - asking what has changed since Tuesday.

As a taxpayer (although not for much longer) I object to the Police wasting my money investigating this nonsense.

It's so trivial that you have to think Boris is doing a pretty good job if this is the only thing opponents can find to throw at him.

Also if he is such a bad PM you'd think opponents would want to keep him in place to increase the likelihood of their winning at the next GE. So I suspect they want to get him out as they think next incumbent is likely to perform worse.
