Everywhere is designed to have the widest appeal (including "child friendly" FFS) and blandness is the result.

I think a lot of places ask the parents to take away their kiddies by 9pm, but this is too early. I would say 6pm is better, and come 6pm i would enforce this by playing Wayne County and the Electric Chairs' "Fuck Off" on the sound system. At full volume. That'll shift the buggers.

I think McDonalds run the opposite policy where you not only must have young children with you but also they must be able to scream continuously at very high levels.

asda delivery there so im all stocked up. never seen so many substitutes especially as i checked it yesterday ... we are soon going to just have a few staples

supermarkets have been discontinuing products I like for decades. Try buying some proper frozen American waffles these days. They all used to stock them including Asda which was the last to stop selling them some time back in the early 1990s.

even Amazon don't sell then in their 'American' shop.

I like the Sainsbury iced donuts but go in after 10am and they're sold out. That's always been the case. They have no way to tell how many they would have sold if they put more stock out.


Went into Kwik Save once, only after a couple of things, plain digestive biscuits, tin of tomato soup and I forget what else but it was something totally ubiquitous. Sold out of all three.

All of this was way before pandemic, shortage of drivers, shortage of shipping containers etc etc.

There should be some sort of tagger next to the price card you can swipe your phone on and it tells them 'Yes I would have spent some more money with you if you had the thing I wanted.'

With this ordering on-line thing they just flog you a 'substitute' instead so it's better for them as they still sell you something instead of you walking out empty-handed. No incentive to improve.

With the corner shop I just tell him what I want and he gets it in from the cash and carry. He still can't get proper waffles though.

They're a bugger for substitutes - sometimes they're acceptable, but I draw the line at getting Solvol Autosol instead of Colgate

Are Kwik Save still around? They don't deserve to be. I remember their adverts, featuring items at a greatly reduced price, but when I go in they never had any. Probably limited to one tiny store on the outskirts of Burnley which had 2 tins of half price baked beans.

I wonder if the days of the big out-of-town superstores are numbered, and will become warehousing/distribution centres - when only a small percentage of the population can run an ev, because most folk live in a terraced house or block of flats with piss-poor parking and no reliable access to charging points, deliveries will become the norm.

Not to mention the cost of EVs. A small petrol Fiat 500 starts at around £12,500 new, the electric version double that!
