Lol, well it was free food, innit?Hope what they filled their plates with was EATEN, not wasted. One of my pet hates are folk at buffets who pile the plates high with food (as if it was rationed or a world famine was on), then leave half of it...
It happens all the time at wedding 'do's', but also at Sunday lunch buffets in pubs and hotels, especially with puddings, to the point that if I were the owner or manager I'd impose a surcharge to cover all excessive wastage, and hit the greedy bassas in their pockets!
Remember the old saying: 'You've got eyes bigger than your stomach!'? Very apt.

I hate buffets, at least the ones you have to pay for. Same principle as the self-service checkout in the supermarket. They still charge you for the food but because having someone bring it to you eats into their profit they make you go and get it yourself
isn't the whole point of going to a hotel or restaurant that someone else does all the shit for you?
You've still got to book, drive to the restaurant, find somewhere to park and then wait for your table to be ready, and now you've got to go and get the food yourself from a selection another punter probably coughed or sneezed on already. Wonderful.

Yeah, I fully agree. Not my thing at all, and often the quality of the food is mediocre at best. I can see the attraction for families with kids (who, up to a certain age) often get to eat for free, as it's a cheap way to feed them, get a day out, and someone else does the washing up!
But otherwise, no. Buffets are more often than not a triumph of quantity over quality. Yes it's cheap, but big deal. It can work with Chinese and Indian food, though

It was a proper 3-course lunch with a bottle of wine (or other drinks) included for each table. We had about 40 for lunch (the day 'do') and around another 30 for the night one (disco, etc), where we put on a buffet - but it was a good one, lol!
