1963?I remember walking on my own about a mile and a half to primary school through the snow in winter and my wellies being too short as the snow came halfway up my thighs and chilled my legs. We wore shorts all year round at that age back then, I was about six (we had proper snowfall then too

When I went to primary school, as it was about 5 miles from our house, my dad drove me there (and back), and in secondary school, which was around 7 miles away, the school had a contract with a bus company, so I walked the half a mile, or so, from my house to the bus stop
...then when the bus came, usually did my homework, which should've been done the night before, when I was out with my mates instead

Marco.), but there were very deep snow drifts (Hertfordshire) which lasted for weeks.
I seem to remember 1965/66 (most of my primary years seemed to have decent snow) being really good for snowball fights. Sledging on nearby Royston/Therfield heath The heath had good hills and a golf course, I remember going down one hill and disappearing in a drift in a bunker. Exhilarating times and brilliant memories.
I had a lot more freedom as a kid than I allowed my children. Out and about with local kids from about the age of six, just wouldn't be allowed now.
