I watch this a lot as its superb. it has everything in it and maybe my fav film.

Dr Strangelove, 1964. The Criterion Collection presents.... fabulously reconstructed from various sources, this is one of the greats.
Directed by Stanley Kubrick and stars Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, and Slim Pickens.




Dr. Strangelove is Kubrick's highest-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes, holding a 98% approval rating based on 91 reviews, with an average rating of 9.13/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Stanley Kubrick's brilliant Cold War satire remains as funny and razor-sharp today as it was in 1964." The film also holds a score of 97 out of 100 on Metacritic, based on 32 reviews, indicating "universal acclaim". The film is ranked number 7 in the All-Time High Scores chart of Metacritic's Video/DVD section. It was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

The Nightingale, 2018. Aussie western, written, directed, and co-produced by Jennifer Kent. It stars Aisling Franciosi, Sam Claflin, and Baykali Ganambarr,





Probably a very difficult watch for most, but this type of thing did go on in Tasmania back in the day. Jennifer Kent got a lot of abuse for it, but not from me.

Stalag 17, 1953. Starring: William Holden, Don Taylor, Otto Preminger, Peter Graves, Robert Strauss, Harvey Lembeck and Richard Erdman. It was directed by Billy Wilder.

Holden won the Academy Award for best actor.



This is the Masters Of Cinema(eureka) bluray which is in lovely condition bot picture and 2 channel audio.

To Kill a Mockingbird , 1962. Based on Harper Lee's 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, and starring Gregory Peck and Robert Duvall(in his screen debut) with Mary Badham, Phillip Alford, William Windom, and Alice Ghostley.





The film received widespread critical acclaim. As of May 2021, it maintains a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 66 reviews, with an average rating of 8.90/10. The site's critical consensus states, "To Kill a Mockingbird is a textbook example of a message movie done right – sober-minded and earnest, but never letting its social conscience get in the way of gripping drama." According to Bosley Crowther.

Now another film from same year; Mockingbird won I think 3 Oscars, this got 7 at same ceremony. Lawrence of Arabia, 1962 directed by David Lean and starring Peter O'Toole, Jack Hawkins, Alec Guinness, Jose Ferrer and Omar Sharif among many.

Murder By Decree, 1979.. This is Holmes and Watson on trail of Jack The Ripper.. Stars Christopher Plummer and James Mason as the duo. It has an all star supporting cast too.

excellent holmes version. top actors and of course a great story you can do lots with. truth is not really known so its all fair game. Plummer is at top of his game.

Picnic at Hanging Rock , 1975. Directed by Peter Weir, and starring Rachel Roberts, Dominic Guard, Helen Morse, Vivean Gray and Jacki Weaver.





Weir recalled that when the film was first screened in the United States, American audiences were disturbed by the fact that the mystery remained unsolved. According to Weir, "One distributor threw his coffee cup at the screen at the end of it, because he'd wasted two hours of his life—a mystery without a goddamn solution!"
Critic Vincent Canby noted this reaction among audiences in a 1979 review of the film, in which he discussed the film's elements of artistic "Australian horror romance", albeit one without the cliches of a conventional horror film.

Despite this, the film was a critical success, with American film critic Roger Ebert calling it "a film of haunting mystery and buried sexual hysteria" and remarked that it "employs two of the hallmarks of modern Australian films: beautiful cinematography and stories about the chasm between settlers from Europe and the mysteries of their ancient new home."

I rarely pay attention to what reviews have to say about films (or indeed Hi-fi)!
