I said in a few years. Before long electric cars will have more range and need fewer charges. I'd expect to see roads with induction loops under the surface eventually too and they will charge suitably equipped vehicles while on the move. Ideal for motorways!

i think that is a long way off if it ever happens. Ten years ago people were saying 'Batteries ae getting better and the range problem will soon be solved.' Ten years on it's still an issue and I think it will still be an issue in another ten.

Two things with that, though. 300 miles is the maximum theoretically possible, not real world range. You have to accelerate up a hill to pass an HGV, there's 25 miles off your range right away.

it's cold or it's warm so you need the heater/ac on the whole way, another 50 odd miles knocked off.

The other problem is what if your destination is 320 miles away? You still have to stop for half an hour (at least) to re-charge just to go the last 20. And you might have to travel some distance out of your way to find charging point. You get there, they are all in use so you have to wait your turn, there's another hour, maybe more.

Lol, dunno. Teslas are certainly fast enough, but not sure about your average glorified 'electric shopping trolley'... That wouldn't bother me anyway, as I'd be driving something that looked cool (as opposed to a homogenised piece of soulless shite), illustrated that I wasn't a mindless sheep, and above all, was a damn sight more FUN!

I red a review of a Tesla a few years back now where the reviewer decided to use it for his annual family holiday to the south of France - which he usually did in his ICE car (think it was a Jag).

Upshot was it took 12 hours more to make the trip because of all the recharging stops. Added to which although the fuel bill was less he ended up spending more because at each hour long recharge stop they would be spending money in the services whilst sat about waiting.

In the Jag he would just pull in, fill up, and off again, no additional expenses since the rest of the family didn't even get out of the car.

I guess motorway service station owners will love them though.
