I was thinking about that movie just now, it's not bad.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

The Blue Dahlia, 1946. directed by George Marshall and starring Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake and William Bendix.

This was Raymond Chandler's first original screenplay, and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Chandler had difficulties finishing it and had to go on the booze badly at risk of his life to get there.

This is the bluray version. excellent film

Last night on BBC4 - Casablanca

This must have been a restored version, because the blacks and whites are just beautiful and sharp. I love this film, despite it's subdued propaganda.

Me too. The only problem I have with it is the Bergman character. Aside from being pretty I never understand why a bloke like Rick would be so crazy about her, and the Paris flashback where that should be explained is the only lame scene in the film.
    Current Lash Up:

    TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > Troels Gravesen Faital 3WC-15.

It's also where one of the many continuity errors in the film occur - when Rick is waiting for Ilsa at the train station it is pouring with rain, Sam turns up with the letter and the two of them are soaking wet, yet the next shot is of them boarding the train and miraculously their clothes are dry.

Unusally the film is shot in the exact sequence order of the script; because the script was being written as the film was being made.

Just arrived from the States in region A guise; The Criterion remastered bluray of Alfred Hitchcock's The 39 Staps, 1935 starring Robert Donat.

Its still not a stunning picture but much improved all same. it is 86 years young after all.
